Richland High downs Sandpoint for first lacrosse win of season

HANFORD – Zach Mabry scored three goals and two assists as Richland High School cruised to its first boys lacrosse win of the season with a 16-4 defeat of visiting Sandpoint (Idaho), Sunday at Hanford High School.

Mabry, a senior attackman who attends Southridge High School in Kennewick, led all scorers with five points for the Richland club made up of student-athletes from five Tri Cities high schools.

Richland scored four unanswered goals in the first and added four more in the second to take an 8-3 halftime lead.  In the second half, Richland continued its scoring dominance with three goals in the third and five more in the final quarter.

A total of nine different Richland players found the net including Southridge sophomore Mario Midili and Kennewick and  junior Charles Williams, who both had three goals.

On defense, Southridge senior Vaughn Ostler grabbed 14 ground balls while Richland senior goaltender Daniel Hart had five saves.

Attackmen Grier Cole and Parker Davis handled the scoring for Sandpoint with two goals each.

Richland High School (1-0-0) next faces Wenatchee High School  (0-0-0), Tuesday, March 12 in a 5 p.m. start at Badger Mountain Park in Richland.
