Coach’s switch keeps it light as Gonzaga Prep falls to Sandpoint

SANDPOINT, Idaho — Gonzaga Prep dropped its ninth game of the boys high school lacrosse season with a 10 – 3 loss to Sandpoint High School, Friday in Sand Point, Idaho.

The loss was the second of the season by G-Prep to the San Point squad. The Bullpups dropped an 11 – 9 decision to Sandpoint on April 24th.

Missing their two top midfielders who are out for the season with injuries, G-Prep was held scoreless in the first half, while Sandpoint put up three in the first and two in the second for a 5 – 0 half-time lead.

After scoring their first goal in the third, G-Prep coach Chris Shogan swapped his offense with the defense to keep things light for the remainder of the game. “The kids loved it. Fun times,” said Shogan following the game.

With the new configuration, his Pups responded with another goal, while holding Sandpoint to three. With the new offense gaining experience, G-Prep netted another goal in the fourth, but that would be it as Sandpoint netted two more to lock in the win.

James Pelkie, Luke Johnson and Luke Bean combined for G-Prep’s three goals, while goaltender Evan Ogden had seven saves in the Bullpup cage.

Gonzaga Prep (2-9-0) next faces Logos School (5-7-0) in its final game of the regular season, Monday, May 14 in Moscow, Idaho.

Sandpoint (Idaho) 3 2 3 2 — 10
