Eastside Catholic’s MacIlvennie named to Under Armour lacrosse all star team

Colin MacIlvennieSEATTLE — Eastside Catholic sophomore Colin MacIlvennie of Maple Valley, Wash. has been named to the West team for the 2012 Under Armour Underclass All-Star Lacrosse Tournament.

MacIlvennie, who plays midfield for the Crusaders, is the only player from Washington state and one of just five sophomores to be selected to the squad of high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors for the national tournament.

The West squad includes 15 players from California, five from Colorado, two from Nevada and one from Arizona. One hundred, fifty-three students from high schools in seven western states were invited to tryout for the team January 6 in San Diego.

In his freshman year, MacIlvennie was the second leading scorer for Eastside Catholic helping the Crusaders advance to the quarterfinal round of the boys state high school lacrosse tournament with 20 goals, 13 assists and 48 ground balls in 10 regular season games.

“This was an especially strong tryout this year. Our team of 16 evaluators was really impressed by many of the players’ hustle, determination and performance throughout the night,” said West head Coach Alex Cade (Coronado High School, Calif.) “It was a very tough process and ultimately we could only choose 24 of the incredibly talented players at this tryout.”

The West squad will compete against teams from Baltimore, Long Island, Midwest, New England, New Jersey, Philadelphia, South, Upstate New York, and Washington, D.C.

The national tournament takes place June 29 – July 1 at Johnny Unitas Stadium on the campus of Towson University in Towson, Md.
