Washington high school lacrosse scores for Friday, May 14

Boys Division II – Opening Round Playoffs

Blanchet downs Providence, advances to boys D2 state lacrosse quarterfinals

SEATTLE – Zane Zielke and Tyler Schmutz each score 3 goals as Blanchet advanced to the quarterfinals of the Boys Division II high school lacrosse playoffs with a 12 – 4 opening round win over Providence, Friday at Blanchet High School. Will Massart had 11 saves for the Braves. Ryan Morris had 2 goals and Dave Wartes had 9 saves in the season-ending loss for Providence. With the win, Blanchet moves on to face the winner of Saturday’s Wenatchee, Port Angeles matchup in the quarterfinals.

Lynnwood defeats Garfield, advances to boys D2 state lacrosse quarterfinals

LYNNWOOD, Wash. – Alex Tindall and Trey Knowles each scored 7 goals to power Lynnwood into the Boys Division II state lacrosse quarterfinals with a 16 – 3 opening-round playoff win over Garfield, Friday at Lynnwood High School. Dave Dekokkoek had 11 saves in the win. Justin Guity, Andy Boelter and Reid Kenney all scored for Bulldogs. With the win, Lynnwood advances in post-season play to take on Sammamish, which defeated Stanwood in its opening-round game, in the state quarterfinals.

Sammamish downs Stanwood, advances to boys D2 state lacrosse quarterfinals

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Christian Paxton scored 2 goals and Sam Chapmans collected 11 ground balls as Sammamish advanced to the Boys Division II state lacrosse quarterfinals with an 8 – 2 opening-round playoff win over Stanwood, Friday at Wilburton Hill Park in Bellevue. Jesse Aldapa and Kyle Bennet each scored for Stanwood in the season-ending loss. With the win, Sammamish moves-on to face Lynnwood, which defeated Garfield in its opening-round game, in the state quarterfinals.

Lake Washington ousts Whatcom, advances to boys D2 state lacrosse quarterfinals

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Ben Anderson scored 5 goals as Lake Washington advanced to the Boys Division II state lacrosse quarterfinals with a 17 – 7 opening-round playoff win over Whatcom, Friday at Lake Washington High School. With the win, the Kangs move on to face Snohomish, which won its opening-round matchup over Klahowya, in the state quarterfinals. Daniel Hernandez and Jonah Mannering each had 2 goals and Curtis McFadden had 17 saves in the seaon-ending loss for Whatcom.

Snohomish routs Klahowya, advances to boys D2 state lacrosse quarterfinals

SILVERDALE, Wash. – Justin Jones scored 5 goals and Nate Wirtz had 14 ground balls as Snohomish advanced to the Boys Division II high school lacrosse quarterfinals with a 15 – 8 opening round playoff win over Klahowya, Friday at Klahowya Secondary School in Silverdale. Loren Danielson had 18 saves in goal as Snohomish moves-on to face Lake Washington, which downed Whatcom in its opening-round game, in the state quarterfinal playoffs. Caleb Hiller and Neil Sell each had 2 goals and Nehemiah Salo had 16 saves in the season-ending loss for Klahowya.

Soukup’s 2OT winner propels Roosevelt past Redmond, into state lax quarterfinals

SEATTLE – Ben Soukup scored the game-winner with 2:36 remaining in the second overtime to lift Roosevelt past Redmond 5 – 4 in the opening round of the Boys Division II high school lacrosse playoffs, Friday at Lower Woodland Park. The win propelled the Roughriders into a matchup with the winner of Saturday’s San Juan, Gig Harbor opening round matchup. Kevin Ault kept it close for the Roughriders with 12 saves in goal. For Redmond, Brad Bomberry had 2 goals and 13 ground balls and Nico Shewey had 13 saves in goal.

Wisman underhands winner to lift Northshore over Puyallup in boys DI lax

BOTHELL, Wash. – With just 18 seconds remaining in regulation, Foster Wisman picked up a ground ball in the Puyallup zone and fired an underhand shot past goaltender Zach Steedman to give Northshore a 14 – 13 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Puyallup, Friday at Bothell High School. With the win, Northshore finished the season at 10-6-0 for 6th place in the Northeast Conference. Brian Carlson and Jeff Tungsvik each had 3 goals as Puyallup finished with an 8 – 6 record for 3rd place in the Southwest Conference.

King’s Way drops Lake Tapps in boys DI lacrosse

AUBURN, Wash. – Jordan Goodspeed and Parker Dotsey each scored 4 goals to lead King’s Way to a 19 – 3 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Lake Tapps, Friday at Game Farm Park in Auburn. The win left King’s Way with a 12 – 3 record for 2nd place in the Southwest Conference. Matthiew Nordlie, Nick Fawcett and Josh Davenport all scored for Lake Tapps and Brandon Sims had 14 saves in goal to end the season. Lake Tapps was winless in its 14 starts this season.

Tahoma drops Prep in boys DI lacrosse

KENT, Wash. – Mike Toessler had 2 goals and Justin Hanson had 7 saves as Tahoma handed Seattle Prep an 8 – 5 Boys Division I high school lacrosse loss, Friday at Tahoma High School. The win gave Tahoma its 4th win, while Seattle Prep slipped to 4-12-0. Cassidy Miller and Ryan Bartlett each had 2 goals and Jack Maurer had 13 saves for Prep.

Stadium drops Vashon 12 – 7 in boys DI lacrosse

VASHON ISLAND, Wash. – Stadium got its fifth win of the season in a 12 – 7 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Vashon, Friday at Vashon High School. The win gave Stadium a 5-9-0 recored while Vashon slipped to 2-12-0.

SCORING HIGHLIGHTS: Stadium 12, Vashon 7 (Hamzah Griffin, V, 2 goals, 1 assist; John Smith, V, 2 goals, 3 ground balls)

MI boys net perfect season, hand Bellevue first conference lax loss

MERCER ISLAND, Wash. – Undefeated Mercer Island handed rival Bellevue its first conference loss of the season with a 7 – 5 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win to complete an undefeated season, Friday at Islander Stadium. Steven Taylor contributed 4 goals to the win and Hap Giraud had 12 saves in goal as the Islanders prepare for the playoffs with a perfect 19-0-0 overall record (14-0-0 in conference play). Ryan Deal had 3 goals and Austin Boyd had 10 saves in goal for the 2nd place Wolverines who slid to 13-1-0 in conference play and 17-3-0 overall.

Skyline downs Lakeside in boys DI lacrosse

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Charlie Engel, Max Saffle and Connor Brandt each scored 3 goals to lift Skyline to a 16 – 9 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Lakeside, Friday at Skyline High School. The three contributed to 9 of the Spartans’ 16 goals, but it was the 22 saves in goal by Skyline goaltend Dan Seil that kept the Lions at bay. With the win, Skyline closed-out the season at 10-8-0. Lakeside wrapped up the season dropping its second game in a row and slipping to an even 7-7-0 on the year.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
