Girls Division II – Semifinal Playoffs

Eastside Catholic stops Issaquah, advances to Girls D2 state lacrosse finals

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Amanda Tsitsis scored 4 goals as Eastside Catholic advanced to the Girls Division II high school lacrosse state finals with a 13 – 8 semifinal playoff win over rival Issaquah, Thursday at Skyline Community Field in Sammamish. The win created a fitting homecoming for the Crusaders as they will face Kennedy at 11 a.m., Saturday on their home field for the state Division II championship. In the Crusaders’ win, Lauren Breynaert and Alex Foreman each scored 3 goals. Emily Mincin scored 3 goals and Teagan Cameron had 10 saves as Issaquah closed-out its 2010 season.

Kennedy downs Overlake, advances to Girls D2 state lacrosse finals

BURIEN, Wash. – Natalie Merrill scored 5 goals as Kennedy advanced to the Girls Division II high school lacrosse state finals with a 14 – 11 semifinal playoff defeat of Overlake, Thursday at Kennedy High School. Shey Thommasen had 4 goals, Shea McCormick collected 7 ground balls and Sofie Morales had 16 saves in goal for the Lancers as they powered their way to the state title game. Grace Grubb had 5 goals, Alison Havran had 4 and Cici Votta had 9 saves in goal as Overlake closed-out the 2010 season. With the win, Kennedy faces Eastside Catholic at 11 a.m. Saturday in the state Division II championship game at Eastside Catholic in Sammamish.

Boys Division I – Regular Season

Eastlake boys hand Lakeside lax loss

REDMOND, Wash. – Riley Hill and Patrick Keough each scored 3 goals to lead Eastlake to an 11 – 6 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win, Thursday at Eastlake High School in Redmond. Trevor Olson had 11 saves as Eastlake wrapped up the regular season tied for 8th place with Mukilteo in the Northeast Conference. Sten Jernudd had 2 goals and 2 assists for Lakeside and Nick Canino had 12 saves in goal as Lakeside slipped to 7-6-0. Tied with Northshore, the sixth-place Lions visit Skyline on Friday to wrap up the regular season.

Issaquah rolls over Curtis in boys lacrosse

ISSAQUAH, Wash. – Jake Fritz closed out the 2010 regular season with 4 goals and an assist as Issaquah rolled over Curtis, 10 – 2 in Boys Division I high school lacrosse, Thursday at Issaquah High School. Kevin Powers added 3 goals and Sean Bruno had 7 ground balls in the win for the 16 – 4 Issaquah squad. Taylor Dean and Colby Carr both scored for Curtis in the loss. Curtis finished the season in 4th place in the Southwest Conference.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
