Girls Division II – Quarterfinal Playoffs

Issaquah drops Wenatchee, advances to girls D2 state lacrosse semifinals

ISSAQUAH, Wash. – Haley Mincin scored a season-best 6 goals and an assist as #1 seed Issaquah advanced to the Washington state Girls Division II semifinals with a 14 – 9 high school lacrosse quarterfinal win over #8 seed Wenatchee, Tuesday at Central Park in Issaquah. Alexis Hartmann had 3 goals and Sierra Morrison had 15 saves in the season-ending loss for Wenatchee. With the win, Issaquah advances to play #4 seed Eastside Catholic, which won its quarterfinal playoff over Lakeside, in Thursday’s semifinals.

Eastside Catholic downs Lakeside, advances to girls D2 state lacrosse semifinals

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Lauren Breynaert scored 5 goals and 2 assists as #4 seed Eastside Catholic advanced to the Washington state Girls Division II semifinals with a 20 – 7 high school lacrosse quarterfinal win over Lakeside, Tuesday at Charlie Acosta Field on the campus of the Eastside Catholic School. Alena Pilichowski had 3 goals and Carter Stratton had 5 saves in goal in the season-ending loss for the Lions. With the win, the Crusaders advanced to play #1 seed Issaquah, which won its quarterfinal playoff against Wenatchee, in Thursday’s semifinals.

Overlake downs Ballard, advances to girls D2 state lacrosse semifinals

REDMOND, Wash. – Grace Grubb scored 5 goals and an assist as Overlake advanced to the Washington state Girls Division II semifinals with a 21 – 9 high school lacrosse quarterfinal win over Ballard, Tuesday at the Overlake School. Alison Havran contributed 2 goals and 5 assists as the Owls advance to take on #2 seed Kennedy, which won its quarterfinal over Mercer Island, in Thursday’s semifinals.

Kennedy edges Mercer Island, advances to girls D2 state lacrosse semifinals

BURIEN, Wash. – Natalie Merrill scored 4 goals as Kennedy advanced to the Washington state Girls Division II semifinals with an 11 – 10 high school lacrosse quarterfinal win over Mercer Island, Tuesday at Kennedy High School. Kennedy jumped out to an 8 – 3 lead at the half, but MI battled back with 7 goals in the second, but fell just short. With the win, the Lancers advance to Thursday’s state semifinals against Overlake, which won its quarterfinal over Ballard. Dulce Moll had 4 goals and Audrey Airut-Murphy had 4 saves in the season-ending loss for the Islanders.

Eastlake blanks Woodinville in boys lacrosse

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Patrick Keogh scored 4 goals and 1 assist as Eastlake blanked Division Ii Woodinville 10 – 0 in boys high school lacrosse, Tuesday at the Eastlake Community Fields in Sammamish. Trevor Olson had 8 saves in goal as Eastlake advanced to 6-8-0 in Division I play. Woodinville slipped to 5-11-0 in Division II play.

Vashon edges Tahoma in boys lacrosse

VASHON ISLAND, Wash. – Hamzah Griffin scored 3 goals and Duncan Ende had 2 goals and 3 assists to lead Vashon to its second win the season in a 12 – 11 Boys Division I high school lacrosse defeat of Tahoma, Tuesday at Vashon High School. Aaron Bomber had 10 saves for 2-11-0 Vashon. Tahoma slipped to 3 -13-0. The teams are tied for 8th in the Southwest Conference.

MI extends perfect record with boys lax win over Eastside Catholic

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Steven Taylor and Doug Mahoney each scored 3 goals as Mercer Island extended is perfect record to 18-0-0 with a 15 – 1 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Eastside Catholic, Tuesday at Charlie Acosta Field on the campus of the Eastside Catholic School. With the win, the Islanders remain tied for first place with Bellevue in the Northeast Conference. Kyle Decker had the lone goal for Eastside Catholic and Brandon Veyette had 16 saves as the Crusaders slipped to 3-13-0.

Overlake edges Mukilteo in boys lacrosse

EVERETT, Wash. – Sky Tweedie-Yates scored the go-ahead goal with 6:26 remaining give Overlake a 7 – 6 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Mukilteo, Tuesday at Mariner High School in Everett. The go-ahead goal was the 4th of the night for Tweedie-Yates, who also collected 7 ground balls for the 9-5-0 Owls. Mukilteo’s John Linari and Tommy Hodges both had shots in final 30 seconds, but Overlake goalkeeper Chap Grubb, turned away both. Grubb had 12 saves on the night for the Owls. John Linari had 4 goals and Paul Linari had 12 saves in goal for Mukilteo, which slipped to 7-10-0.

SAMMAMISH, Wash. – Kevin Powers and Jake Fritz each scored 3 goals to lead Issaquah to its 14th win of the season with an 11 – 4 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over rival Skyline, Tuesday at Skyline High School. O’Neil Hughes had 12 saves in goal for Issaquah as the Eagles advanced to 14-5-0 for 3rd place in the Northeast Conference. Hap Siel had 11 saves in goal for Skyline, which slipped to 9-8-0 for 4th place in the Northeast Conference.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
