Boys Division I

Undefeated MI blanks Vashon in boys lacrosse
MERCER ISLAND, Wash. – Four Mercer Island players scored 3 goals to lead the Islanders to a 19 – 0 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Vashon, Wednesday at Islander Stadium. Sophomore Connor Bernal, Jonathan Wettack, Mike Black and John Harrison each recorded a hat trick in the win. The Islanders got off quickly scoring 7 unanswered goals in the first and added 5 in the second, 4 in the third and 3 in the fourth as the undefeated Islanders remained on top of the Northeast Conference with an 11-0-0 record. Cullan Paridon and Aaron Bomber combined for 8 saves in goal as Vashon dropped to 1-7-0.

First place Bellevue drops Seattle Prep in lacrosse
SEATTLE – Seniors Brett Mennella and Thomas Zervas each scored 3 goals to lead Bellevue to an 11 – 5 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win, Wednesday at Seattle’s Georgetown Fields. The hat tricks marked the 27th goal of the season for Menella and the 18th for Zervas. With the win, Bellevue advance to 12-2-0 overall and 8-0-0 in the league play for first in the Northeast Conference. Peter Christiansen had 2 goals and Jack Maurer had 28 saves for 1-6-0 Seattle Prep.

Engel’s last-second goal lifts Skyline lax past Curtis
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – Senior Charlie Engel took a Danny Christianson pass from behind the net to score with 8 seconds remaining to give Skyline an 11 – 10 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Curtis, Wednesday at Curtis High School. With a shot from the top of the crease, Engel beat Curtis goalkeeper Mitchell Homeyer over the right shoulder for his 18th goal of the season. Curtis tied the game with 4:58 remaining after Homeyer made a save in his own crease and charged the length of the field, dishing the ball to junior Quinn Moody who converted for the equalizer. Matt Saffle and Spencer Engel each had 3 goals and Spencer Matches had 17 ground balls as Skyline advanced to 6-5-0 on the season. Taylor Dean had 5 goals and Mitchell Homeyer had 22 saves in goal as Curtis dropped to third place in the Southwest Conference with a 6-3-0 record.

Issaquah boys lax gets 10th win in defeat of Puyallup
ISSAQUAH, Wash. – Senior Todd Jones scored 3 goals to help Issaquah to its 10th win of the season with an 11 – 7 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Puyallup, Wednesday at Issaquah High School. The goal was the 18th of the season for Jones. Puyallup’s Brian Carlson had 3 goals and Zach Steedman had 13 saves and an assist in the loss.

Boys Division II

San Juan lacrosse handles Silver Lake
EVERETT, Wash. – San Juan easily handled Silver Lake for a 15 – 2 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win, Wednesday at Everett’s Walter Hall Park. With the win, San Juan advanced to 6-1-0 for first place in the Skagit Conference. Silver Lake dropped to 0-7-0.

Wenatchee drops Selah for Eastern Conference lacrosse win
WENATCHEE, Wash. – Mitchell Parks, Connor Tidd and Scott Hershey each scored 3 goals to boost Wenatchee to its 8th win of the season with a 17 – 5 defeat of Eastern Conference rival Selah, Wednesday at Wenatchee Valley College. Thomas Bass had 7 saves for Wenatchee, while Spencer Hoppis had 4 saves for 1-8-0 Selah.

GIG HARBOR, Wash. – Peninsula High School freshman Cody Olson scored 5 goals and had 7 ground balls to boost Gig Harbor to a 13 – 6 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win, Wednesday at Peninsula High School. Goaltender Aaron Wolfe had 12 saves for Gig Harbor, which evened its record at 5-5-0. South Kitsap goaltender Ben Landry had 16 saves as South dipped to 2-6-0.

Woodinville defeats North County in boys lacrosse
WOODINVILLE, Wash. – Junior captain Tyler Paris scored 3 goals and goaltender Bolton Combs had 10 saves as Woodinville defeated North County 10 – 2 in Boys Division II high school lacrosse action, Wednesday at Woodinville High School. The win was the fourth of the season for the 4-7-0 Woodinville club. Edgar Mendoza scored both North County goals and collected 8 ground balls. With the loss North County dipped to 1-7-0.

Highline lacrosse downs Franklin
BURIEN, Wash. – Highline defeated Franklin 11 – 4, Wednesday in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Wednesday at Moshier Park. The win was the second of the season for Highline, which now has a 2-5-0 record. The Quakers dipped to 1-8-0.

Bainbridge downs Bellevue for 7th straight lax win
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. – Sydney Whitaker scored 7 goals to lead Bainbridge Island to a 21 – 3 defeat of Bellevue, Wednesday at Bainbridge Stadium. The win was the seventh straight for the Spartans. Bellevue has now lost 3 straight and has dropped to 4-4-1 on the season.

BELLEVUE, Wash. – Piper Essick scored 5 goals to lead Wenatchee to a 17 – 16 Girls Division II high school lacrosse win over Bellevue East, Wednesday at Robinswood Park. The win was the second straight for the 3-5-0 Wenatchee squad. Bellevue East has now lost two in a row to even their record at 4-4-0.

MUKILTEO, Wash. – Sierra Shaw had 6 goals and Dana Jensen scored 5 to lift Mukilteo to an 18 – 13 Girls Division II high school lacrosse win over Overlake, Wednesday at Kamiak High School. Megan McGrew had 11 saves for Mukilteo. Overlake’s Allison Havran and Kerri Smith led all Owls scorers with 3 goals apiece. Mukilteo advanced to 5-4-0, while Overlake, which has been idle since March 31, dropped to its first game of the season for a 6-1-0 record.

Undefeated Kennedy moves into 1st with defeat of Bainbridge
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. – Melanie Hughes scored 5 goals and Natalie Merrill and Shey Thommasen each had 4 goals as undefeated Kennedy moved into first place with a 19 – 6 win over Bainbridge, Wednesday at Bainbridge Stadium. The win broke a four way deadlock for second place and elevated the 7-0-0 Lancers to a share of first place with Issaquah. Bainbridge absorbed its second straight loss to drop to 3-5-0 on the season.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
