Boys Division I

MI lacrosse upsets Mahopac High School in New York
MAHOPAC, N.Y. – John Wettack and Matt Shields scored 3 goals apiece as Mercer Island upset New York’s Mahopac High School 7 – 3, Wednesday in their first of three boys high school lacrosse games in New York state. The Islanders extended a 3-2 half-time advantage with 2 unanswered goals in the third period and 2 more in the fourth, combined for a total of 27 ground balls to shut-down the NY Section 1 powerhouse. Hap Giraud had 8 saves in the win for the Islanders, while Mahopac’s Johnny McGuigan had 13 saves in the loss.

Overlake lacrosse blasts Eastside Catholic
REDMOND, Wash. – Brothers Sky and Scout Tweedie-Yates each scored 4 goals as Overlake blasted Eastside Catholic 15-2, Wednesday in Boys Division I high school lacrosse action at the Overlake School in Redmond. Chap Grubb had 23 saves in goal for the Owls. Michael Rambaldini had 2 goals and 7 ground balls for the Crusaders.

Bellevue out-guns Vashon in boys lacrosse
VASHON ISLAND, Wash. – Brett Mennella scored 6 goals as Bellevue out-gunned Vashon Island High School 18 – 1, Wednesday in Boys Division I high school lacrosse action on Vashon Island. Gregor Davidheiser had the lone goal for Vashon, while Cullin Paridon had 16 saves in the nets for Vashon.

Boys Division II

Clinch 2OT goal lifts Woodinville over Bellevue in lacrosse
BELLEVUE, Wash. – Colter Clinch scored in the first minute of the second overtime to lift Woodinville to a 5 – 4 win over Bellevue High School’s “C” squad, Wednesday in Boys Division II high school lacrosse action at Chinook Middle School. After trading goals through three periods and battling to a scoreless fourth quarter and first overtime period, Clinch broke the deadlock for his second goal of the night. Nathan Madison also scored 2 goals for Woodinville.

Blanchet downs Highline in boys lacrosse
SEATTLE – Dylan Evans scored 5 goals as Blanchet downed Highline 14 – 3 in Boys Division II high school lacrosse action, Wednesday at Blanchet High School. Will Massart had 11 saves in goal for the Braves. Issac Simpson, Daniel Lee and Anthony Parker each scored a goal for Highline.

Sammamish lacrosse nets 17 on Mt. Si
BELLEVUE, Wash. – Briand Headland scored 3 goals and added 2 assists as Sammamish netted a 17 – 1 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Mt. Si, Wednesday at Interlake High School. Andrew Wenzl, Brian Headland and Christian Paxton also scored 3 goals each to contribute to the win. Matt Mahrer found the net for Mt. Si’s lone score.

Kennedy rolls past Holy Names in girls lacrosse
SEATTLE – Natalie Merrill scored 4 goals as Kennedy rolled past Holy Names, 13 – 1, Wednesday in Girls Division II high school lacrosse action at Seattle’s Magnuson Park. Karolin Pyszkiewicz netted the lone goal for the Cougars in the loss.

Overlake drops Bellevue East in girls lacrosse
BELLEVUE, Wash. — Grace Grubb scored 6 goals and Audi Brezak netted 5 as Overlake dropped Bellevue East 19 – 10, Wednesday in Girls Division II high school lacrosse action at Bellevue’s Robinswood Park. Ceci Votta had 12 saves in goal for the Owls.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
