Washington High school lacrosse scores for Saturday, March 27

Boys Division I

NW Invitational: Mahony’s OT goal sends MI past Oregon lacrosse powerhouse
MERCER ISLAND, Wash. – Doug Mahony scored the second of his two goals in the overtime period to give Mercer Island a 12 – 11 win over Oregon powerhouse Lincoln Lacrosse Club, Saturday morning on the second day of the Northwest Invitational (www.NorthwestInvitational.com ) on Mercer Island.

In a closely contested game, the Islanders led 7 – 6 at the half, but were outscored 3 – 2 by the Oregon state runner-up in the third stanza to tie the game at 9. Both teams added a pair of goals in the fourth to force the overtime period.

A total of five MI players scored 2 goals to contribute to the Islanders second win in the tournament. Lincoln’s Henry Schoonmaker scored 5 goals and 11 ground balls and goaltender Max Dickinson had 13 saves in the loss.

A total of 13 teams from top high school programs in Washington, New York, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, and British Columbia are competing in the Mercer Island tournament, which concludes on Sunday.

In other Northwest Invitational results on Saturday morning, Jimmy McBride scored 3 goals to lift New Westminster (Canada) to a 12 – 9 win over Claremont (Canada). Cory Medovich scored 3 goals and Connor DeVane had 13 saves in goal as Palo Verde (Nevada) downed Bainbridge 14 – 5.

On Saturday afternoon, Trevor Hansen scored 4 goals and Jesse King had 5 assists to lead Claremont (Canada) past Sunset (Ore.) 17 – 10. Jimmy McBride had 7 goals as New Westminster (Canada) beat Skyline 13 – 2. Lakeland/Panas (New York) topped Issaquah 12 – 7, and Quinn Moody and Taylor Dean each had 2 goals as Curtis toppled 2009 Idaho state champion Timberline 8 – 7.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Clayton Frank scored a hat trick and Parker Dotsey collected 10 ground balls to lead undefeated King’s Way of Vancouver to a 10 – 4 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Tahoma, Saturday at Columbia River High School in Vancouver, Wash. Brody Lundquist had 2 goals and 5 ground balls for Tahoma and goaltender Justin Hanson had 11 saves as Tahoma dropped to 0-4-0 on the season.

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. – David Gibson scored 5 goals and collected 9 ground balls as South Kitsap downed Mt. Si 11 – 4 for its firs boys lacrosse win of the season, Saturday at Port Orchard’s Veteran’s Memorial Park. Goaltenders Ben Landry had 12 saves and Madeline Haugen, South’s female goaltender had 7 saves, as the Wolves upped their record to 1-2-0. Matt Mahrer and Henry Owens each had 2 goals for Mt. Si.

FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash. — Senior Ryan Guard scored 5 goals and an assist to lead San Juan over Whatcom 9 – 6, Saturday in Boys Division II high school lacrosse at Friday Harbor High School. Goaltender Curtis McFadden had 11 saves as San Juan advanced to 3-1-0. With the loss, Whatcom dropped to 2-2-0.

WENATCHEE, Wash. — Rawley Holmberg had a season-high 8 goals as Wenatchee Valley Lacrosse downed Three Rivers of the Tri Cities 18 – 6, Saturday in Boys Division II high school lacrosse action at Wenatchee Valley College. With the win, goaltender Thomas Bass had 9 saves for Wenatchee. Danny Hart had 18 saves for Three Rivers.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years.
