Boys Division I

Northwest Invitational: Host MI drops Oregon’s Sunset to cap first day at NW invite
MERCER ISLAND, Wash. – Jonathan Wettack and Doug Mahony each scored 2 goals as host Mercer Island dropped Portland, Oregon’s Sunset High School 10 – 3, Friday on the opening day of the Northwest Invitational high school lacrosse tournament at Mercer Island High School. Hap Giraud had 11 saves for the Islanders. In the loss, Ben Dill had 2 goals and goaltender Jack Regan had 22 saves for the 2009 Oregon state semi-finalists.

In other Northwest Invitational Tournament action on Friday, JoJo Milosevec had 5 goals and 2 assists as 2009 Nevada state runner-up Palo Verde High School downed Tacoma’s Curtis High School14 – 6. Jack Pruitt scored 5 goals to lift Skyline High to a 10 – 8 win over 2009 Idaho state champion Timberline High School of Boise. Henry Schoonmaker had 6 goals to lead 2009 Oregon state runner-up Lincoln Lacrosse Club over Issaquah 15 – 9. Victoria Canada’s Claremont Secondary School slipped by 2009 Oregon state quarterfinalist Lakeridge High School of Lake Oswego 8 – 7. And Canada’s New Westminster, who reached the British Columbia provincial tournament in 2009, downed Bainbridge Island 14 – 2.

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Jordan Goodspeed delivered 4 goals and 3 assists as King’s Way High School dispatched visiting Seattle Prep 12 – 1 in Boys Division I High School Lacrosse, Friday at Columbia River High School in Vancouver. Max Zandstra had 9 saves for King’s Way, which advanced to 2-0-0 on the season with the win. Alex Vincent scored the lone goals for Seattle Prep.

SEATTLE – Kyle Deker connected for 4 goals as Eastside Catholic downed Roosevelt 9 – 7 in Boys Division I high school lacrosse, Friday at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle. In the win Michael Rambaldini had 7 ground balls and Bradnon Veyette had 17 saves for the Crusaders. Goaltender Garrett Brendan had 11 saves for Roosevelt.

SEATTLE – Joey Chernick scored 4 goals to lead Nathan Hale to a 15 – 1 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Franklin, Friday at Franklin High School. Jack MacIntire and Ian Harvey had 3 goals each to contribute to the win. Alexandrew Wong scored the Quakers’ lone goal.

LYNDEN, Wash. – Anthony Martinez scored 6 goals as Skagit Valley tallied their second win of the Boys Division II high school lacrosse season with a 14 – 5 win over North County, Friday at Bender Fields in Lynden. Jordon Johnson had 19 saves for Skagit Valley and Marcus Fakkema tallied 3 goals for North County.

Garfield downs Highline in boys lacrosse
SEATTLE – Cedric Rhodes tallied 4 goals and 2 ground balls as Garfield High School downed Highline 11 – 7 in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Friday at Seattle’s Genesee Park. Goaltender Danny Strick had 16 saves for Garfield which advanced to 2-0-0 on the season.

Stanwood lax rolls past Woodinville boys
STANWOOD, Wash. – Kyle Barrett scored 2 goals and Blaine Eveland had 13 saves in goal as Stanwood rolled past Woodinville in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Friday at Stanwood Middle School. With the win, Stanwood advanced to 2-1-0 on the season, while Woodinville dropped to 1-3-0.

Lynnwood’s Providence lax splashes Silver Lake
LYNWOOD, Wash. – Ryan Morris scored 5 goals and collected 8 ground balls to lead Lynnwood’s Providence Classical Christian School past Silver Lake 17 – 3 in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Friday and Lynnwood High School. With the win, Providence evened their record at 2-2-0. Goaltender Merrick Rutledge had 18 saves for Lynnwood in the loss. .

Lynnwood out nets Snohomish for fourth lacrosse win
LYNNWOOD, Wash. – Trey Knowles scored 7 goals as Lynnwood advanced to 4-0 on the season with a 16 – 13 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Snohomish, Friday at Meadlowdale High School. Loren Danielson had 16 saves for Snohomish which dropped its first game of the season.

Wenatchee slaps Selah in high school lacrosse
SELAH, Wash. – Cameron Hoey scored 4 goals and collected 10 ground balls as Wenatchee won its first lacrosse game of the year, Friday in an 11-5 win over Selah, Friday at Selah High school. With the win, Thomas Bass had 10 saves in goal for Wenatchee.

SEATTLE – Sylvia Warren netted 4 goals as Lakeside advanced to 4-0 on the season with a 22 – 2 win over Forest Ridge, Friday at the Lakeside Upper School in north Seattle. Emmy Armintrout and Emma Dorland each scored 3 goals and were among 11 Lions to score in the win. Forest Ridge dropped to 0-3-0.

SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Kaya Reilly put up 7 goals as Snohomish tallied its first win of the season with a 13 – 10 Girls Division II high school lacrosse win over Bellevue East, Friday at Harvey Air Field in Snohomish. In the win, Jessica Toy had 17 saves in net for Snohomish.

Undefeated Lakeside girls blank Graham-Kapowsin in D2 lax
SEATTLE – Sophia Vokos, Lily Gehbrai and Sammy McGanney each put up 4 goals as Lakeside rolled to its fourth win with an 18 – 0 shutout of Graham-Kapowsin at the Lakeside Upper School in North Seattle. Graham-Kapowsin remains winless in 4 starts.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
