MI lacrosse advances to 3-0 with Bainbridge shutout
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. — Jonathan Wettack scored 4 goals to lead Mercer Island to their third boys lacrosse win of the season with a 13 – 0 shutout of Bainbridge, Saturday at Bainbridge Island High School. In the win, the Islanders’ Doug Mahony scored 3 goals and T. Claes Johnson scored 2 while goalkeeper Hap Giraud turned away 6 shots. Spartans goalkeeper Julian Skotheim had 9 saves as Bainbridge evened their record at 1-1-0.

King’s Way lacrosse downs Stadium for first win
VANCOUVER, Wash. — Parker Dotsey scored 2 goals and collected 8 ground balls as Vancouver’s King’s Way High School downed Stadium 11 – 4 for its first Boys Division I high school lacrosse win of the season, Saturday at Columbia River High School in Vancouver. Brock Beall, Jordan Goodspeed and Zach Lindahl also connected for 2 goals apiece and goaltender Max Zanstra had 12 saves to contribute to the win. Stadium’s Drew Thomas had 15 saves in goal. With the loss, Stadium dropped to 0-2-0 on the season.

TACOMA, Wash. – Taylor Dean scored 5 goals and grabbed 5 ground balls to lead Curtis to a Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Tahoma, Saturday at Curtis High School. Mitchell Homeyer had 18 saves in goal as Curtis advanced to 2-0-0 on the season. Tahoma’s Broday Lundquist tallied 3 goals and Justin Hanson had 9 saves in the loss for Tahoma.

Wanzer’s OT goal lifts Mukilteo to boys lacrosse win over Eastlake
MUKILTEO, Wash. — Senior midfielder Riley Wanzer’s overtime goal lifted Mukilteo to an 8 – 7 Boys Division I high school lacrosse win over Eastlake, Saturday at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo. The win evened Mukilteo’s record at 2-2-0, while Eastlake dropped to 0-3-0 on the season.

Boys Division II

Blanchet lacrosse slips past Three Rivers in Tri Cities
RICHLAND, Wash. – Dylan Evans scored 4 goals as Blanchet slipped past Three Rivers 9 – 7 in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Saturday at Badger Mountain Park in Richland. Will Massarf had 9 saves in goal for the Braves. In the loss, Three Rivers’ Connor Flemming collected 11 ground balls.
The Braves advanced to 2-1-0 with the win, while Three Rivers evened their record at 1-1-0.

Wenatchee lacrosse downs Gonzaga Prep for first win
COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – Conor Tidd tallied 4 goals to lead Wenatchee to a 10 – 5 Boys Division II high school lacrosse win over Gonzaga Prep, Saturday in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Goalkeeper Thomas Bass had 11 saves in the first win of the season for Wenatchee. Geoff Barnes and Thomas Greony each had 2 goals for the Bullpups. The Wenatchee high school program fell to Coeur d’Alene to open its season on Friday. Wenatchee travels to Selah on Friday to open Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association play.

North Kitsap lacrosse dumps Liberty
RENTON, Wash. – Jake Icard scored a hat-trick and grabbed 8 ground balls to lead North Kitsap to a 13 – 2 win over Liberty in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Saturday at Liberty High School. NK’s Colter Smith and Ryan Perez also scored 3 goals and Aaron Hack collected 12 ground balls as NK advanced to 1-1-0 on the season. Mason Hard and Casey Smith each scored in Liberty’s loss as the Patriots dropped to 0-2-0.

North County drops Gig Harbor for first win in boys lacrosse
GIG HARBOR, Wash. – Eric Conner scored 5 goals to lift North County to a 14 – 9 win over Gig Harbor in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Saturday at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor. The win was the first of the season for North County, which is made up of students from Lynden High School. Gig Harbor dropped to 1-2-0 on the season.

REDMOND, Wash. – Joseph Mernaugh scored 2 goals and collected 8 ground balls as Redmond rolled past Port Angeles 9 – 1 in Boys Division II high school lacrosse, Saturday at Redmond High School. A total of 6 players scored in the Redmond win as the Mustangs recorded their first win of the season to even their record at 1-1-0. PA goalkeeper Julian Walls had 10 saves as PA dropped to 1-1-0.

FRIDAY HARBOR, Wash. – San Juan jumped out to a 6 – 0 first quarter lead on the way to a 15 – 5 Boys Division II high school lacrosse victory over Skagit Valley, Saturday at San Juan High School. Forest Dayton and Ryan Guard each had 4 goals as San Juan evened their record at 1-1-0 on the season. Brendan McGoffin led Skagit Valley’s five scorers with a goal and an assist and goaltender Jordan Johnson had 17 saves in the net in the loss.

A total of 7 Crusaders scored to improve Eastside Catholic to 3-0-0 on the season. Heather Dappen and Mindy Howard scored for Wenatchee, which is winless in three starts.

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in six of the last eight years. In 2010, over 2,700 high school students representing 83 boys (www.WHSBLA.org) and 55 girls (www.WSLAX.org) varsity and jv teams in eastern and western Washington compete in a nine-week season March – May. The annual Boys and Girls Washington State High School Championships take place in late May.
