Prep lacrosse state championships set for May 16 and May 30

SEATTLE – The Washington state chapter of US Lacrosse announced today that the Washington state high school lacrosse championships for girls will take place Saturday, May 16 at the Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish and the boys state championships will take place Saturday, May 30 at Memorial Stadium near the Seattle Center.

The high school state championships include title games for the Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association and Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association Division I and II teams. Division I and II include high school lacrosse teams from eastern and western Washington playing at the varsity level.

Both championship events include preliminary honors and all star exhibition games for youth lacrosse players from throughout the Northwest.

State tournament quarterfinal play for Girls Division I and II gets underway Monday, May 11 with semifinal play beginning May 13. State tournament quarterfinal action for Boys Division I and II gets underway May 21 with semifinals scheduled for May 27.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in five of the last seven years. In 2009, over 2,370 high school students representing 75 boys and 49 girls varsity and junior varsity teams in Washington state will compete in a nine-week season March – May with the annual Washington State High School Championships taking place May 16 (girls) and May 30 (boys). Varsity boys lacrosse is contested in the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association ( with 14 Division I and 28 Division II teams. Varsity girls lacrosse is contested in The Washington Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association ( with 15 Division I and 16 Division II teams.
