Merrick, Maxon net four to boost Holy Names to girls lacrosse win

SEATTLE – Sam Merrick and Victoria Maxon each connected for four goals to boost Holy Names to a 15 – 6 Girls Division I high school lacrosse win over Curtis, Tuesday, at Seattle’s Magnusson Park.

Holy Names led 8 – 4 at the half and found the net seven more times in the second for their fourth win of the season.

Merrick’s four goals gives her a total of 21 on the season to lead all scorers in Girls Division I play. Maxon is second with 19 on the season.

The Cougars fired 26 shots at Curtis goaltender Rachel Phua (0-5-0), who made 11 saves. Holy Names goaltender Annie McKeon (3-1-0) faced just 11 Curtis shots, making 5 saves.

With the win, Holy Names advances 4-1-1 on the season, while Curtis dropped to 0-5-0.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in five of the last seven years. In 2009, over 2,370 high school students representing 75 boys and 49 girls varsity and junior varsity teams in Washington state will compete in a nine-week season March – May with the annual Washington State High School Championships taking place May 16 (girls) and May 30 (boys). Varsity boys lacrosse is contested in the Washington High School Boys Lacrosse Association (www.WHSBLA.org) with 14 Division I and 28 Division II teams.
