Roosevelt routs Curtis 22 – 9 in girls lacrosse

SEATTLE – Madeline Gross scored seven goals as Roosevelt routed Curtis 22 – 9 in Girls Div. I varsity lacrosse, Wednesday at Seattle’s Magnuson Park. The win was the first of the season for the Roughriders.

Roosevelt controlled the game from start to finish as the Roughriders peppered Curtis goaltender Rachel Phua with 39 shots. Along with Gross, a total of eight Roosevelt players found the net including Olivia Hull with five goals, and Frannie Hemmelgarn and Alison Crabb each with three. Hemmelgarn collected 10 ground balls to lead the Roughrider defense.

Roosevelt goalkeeper Rissa Anderson (1-0-1) had three saves, while Curtis’ Phua (0-3-0) had 17 saves.

With the win, Roosevelt advanced to 1-0-1 while Curtis dropped to 0-3-0 on the season.

About High School Lacrosse in Washington State
Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the U.S. and in Washington State the sport has seen double-digit growth in five of the last seven years. In 2009, over 2,370 high school students representing 75 boys and 49 girls varsity and junior varsity teams in Washington state will compete in a nine-week season March – May with the annual Washington State High School Championships taking place May 16 (girls) and May 30 (boys).
